Description
Oakland University targeted LEED Gold certification for the project. More than 95 percent of construction waste generated by the project was recycled or salvaged, and 20 percent of all materials used include recycled content. In addition, 20 percent of the construction materials were sourced regionally.
The new Oak View Hall provides housing options to support the University’s recruitment goals, to help retain students, and to enhance the campus living/learning environment. The architectural character of the building is a complementary blend between existing campus facilities and a neighboring contemporary academic building. The residence hall houses two types of suites, a Freshman Suite and the Upperclassman Suite. It is also the new home of OU’s Honors College. Each floor has collaborative spaces, lounges and a large meeting room. A central lobby and lounge area is provided to unite all residents and is adjacent to a café and mail area. Large open lounges and enclosed meeting spaces are distributed on all levels, providing flexible gathering spaces for larger study groups, events and indoor recreation. A central quad entry plaza provides open space for flexible exterior uses for events, concerts and group activities. A lower plaza area includes hammocks and a patio for special events. The main plaza, adjacent to second level lounges provides shade trees and moveable seating options near the central café, while covered and uncovered bike parking is provided at multiple locations.AWARDS
