CMU Graduate Housing
Not only is this project the first on-campus Graduate Student Housing facilities in the country—it is one of the first University-owned student housing facilities to obtain Platinum Certification under the LEED for homes guidelines. Neumann/Smith designed two new residence halls offering apartment-style housing options tailored to the needs of CMU’s graduate students, who often opt to live off campus. The three-story buildings provide three different unit configurations, with full kitchens, in-suite laundry and individual climate controls. The buildings also include common lounges, meeting rooms, and a fitness center. The design responds to the historic campus gothic architecture typology. The facilities reduced energy consumption by 36%.
