Description
Not only is the project unique for being one of the first on-campus Graduate Student Housing facilities in the country - it is one of the first University-owned student housing facilities to obtain Platinum Certification under the LEED for homes guidelines.
Neumann/Smith designed two new residence halls offering state-of-the-art apartment-style housing options specifically tailored to the needs of CMU’s graduate students, who often opt to live off campus. The three-story buildings provide 164 beds in one-bedroom/one-bath, two-bedroom/one-bath and four-bedroom/two-bath configurations, all with full kitchens, in-suite laundry and individual climate controls. The buildings also include common lounge/lobby spaces, meeting rooms and a fitness center. The design responds to the historic Campus Gothic architecture typology at the north end of campus. A two-story high glass curtainwall at the lobby divides each building into two residential wings, while a series of cloistered brick arches bring a sense of tradition to the common areas.AWARDS
