Kenneth Neumann Design Scholarship 2022 / Hayden Prillwitz

HAPPENINGS / REFLECT FORWARD / KENNETH NEUMANN DESIGN SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded for her design and writing excellence, we congratulate Hayden Prillwitz, the 2022 Kenneth Neumann Scholarship recipient.

Hayden graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Interior Design and is currently pursuing a Master of Architecture at Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University.

Hayden describes her project submission on a building proposal in Lowell, Michigan: “This site floods pretty drastically, so the foundation is intentionally flooded to show that this is how our buildings will look/function with our approaching climate crisis resulting in irreversible damage.”

KENNETH NEUMANN DESIGN SCHOLARSHIP

Founding Principal, Ken Neumann, FAIA, dedicated his life to design excellence. He was a gifted architect who gave generously of his time to advance the profession. Ken loved architecture and was a role model and mentor for countless architects. His many accomplishments included a Master of Architecture degree from Harvard University, the AIA Michigan Gold Medal, the AIA Detroit Gold Medal, the AIA Detroit Charles Blessing Award, and the Martin Luther King Social Justice Award from Ferris State University.

The Kenneth Neumann Design Scholarship was established in his honor to provide scholarships for graduate architecture or design students from the University of Michigan, University of Detroit Mercy and Lawrence Technological University schools of architecture.

Our work has strength of purpose and great integrity in its living up to building buildings… All of these buildings enhance the communities in which they are located, in some cases creating the whole community itself.
– Kenneth Neumann, FAIA
