evolution of our legacy

  • 1968
    Rossen/Neumann Associates, Architects and Planners is formed with Sandy Rossen and Kenneth Neumann.
  • 1972
    Rossen/Neumann Associates begins work on original Pine Knob Music Theatre.
  • 1978
    A stretch of distinctive office buildings is completed in Troy and Southfield.
  • 1980
    The firm completes work at 100/200 Galleria Officentre.
  • 1990
    A new logo for a new name.
  • 1990
    Regent Court, our first high rise, is completed in Dearborn.
  • 1994
    National Corvette Museum opens its doors to the public.
  • 1997
    Kenneth Neumann/Joel Smith + Asociates earns AIA Michigan Architectural Firm of the Year Award.
  • 1998
    Our name changes to Neumann/Smith & Associates.
  • 2004
    The Holocaust Memorial Center, now The Zekelman Holocaust Center, opens its doors to the public.
  • 2007
    Our name changes one last time to Neumann/Smith Architecture with a new logo that reflects our current branding.
  • 2007
    We begin decades-long renovation of Beverly Center mall in Los Angeles with Studio Fukas; one of our 200+ retail projects spanning 10 states across the U.S.
  • 2007
    The continuation of our commitment to renovations in Detroit with one of Bedrocks premier downtown projects – the first of over 100 projects with our firm.
  • 2013
    Hannah-Neumann/Smith, a strategic partnership with Hannah + Associates, is formed and opens offices in Detroit's histroic Wright-Kay building.
  • 2017
    One of our 400+ higher education projects, The Woods Residence Hall is completed on Northern Michigan University's campus in Marquette.
  • 2018
    Microsoft moves into their Neumann/Smith-designed offices in downtown Detroit.
  • 2021
    We break ground on our 23rd Michigan State University Federal Credit Union branch + office space in downtown East Lansing.
  • 2023
    After completion in 2022, The Huntington Bank Tower high-rise project team celebrates the award-winning building at the 2023 Engineering Society of Detroit Honor Awards event.
  • 2024
    Contributing to the revitalization of Corktown, The Godfrey and Perennial Corktown open and work begins on Michigan Central Station with Hannah-Neumann/Smith.
  • 2024
    The Zekelman Holocaust Center celebrates its 20th year, and we complete the exhibit renovations with Ralph Appelbaum and Associates.
