The Shed at Robert C. Valade Park
Description
A portion of the East Riverfront formerly used to store buoys has been converted into a family-friendly urban beach. The 3.2 acre project, on a former Coast Guard buoy storage site (and former site of a couple cement companies) is now one of Detroit's new must-see attractions.
The project includes a sandy "beach," play areas for kids, and food and drink offerings, Atwater Beach will be created along the east riverfront between Chene Park East and Stroh River Place.
Hannah-Neumann/Smith designed the 4,900-square-foot shed with garage-door style openings, an overhang and patio area to provide shelter and space for programming, special events, food and beverage and retail outlets.Info
