Inspiration from the past brings economic revival to the future.

Following the receipt of a grant from MDOT, the City of Dearborn commissioned a study to assess the feasibility of a new station at a new location more convenient to The Henry Ford, Dearborn’s West Downtown District, and the campuses of University of Michigan-Dearborn and Henry Ford Community College.  During the study of a facility that would serve high speed rail traffic from Chicago and incorporate exhibit halls for The Henry Ford and a new Dearborn Visitor’s Center, two concepts were developed.  The long-term concept was approximately 25,000 sf including building, bridge, two towers and rail/bus platforms.  A smaller Phase 1 station of 5,000 sf was also developed to address short-term requirements for limited funding. A grant from the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 accelerated the City’s ability to construct the envisioned facility.  Neumann/Smith was selected to lead a multi-disciplinary team to develop the final design of the intermodal passenger rail station and all necessary systems, all rail side improvements, platforms and site work, and development of the associated linkages to The Henry Ford. 2015 Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD) Awards, Honorable Mention, Construction Design Award
