Neumann/Smith renovated the former 40-year-old Oakland County Schools Administration Building as a new home consolidating County departments scattered in remote locations including the Oakland County Executive, Fiscal Services, Risk Management, Human Resources, Economic Development & Community Affairs and Purchasing Departments.  The existing multi-tiered “kiva” was transformed into a modern conference and training center.  A new two story, open space was carved out of the central lobby, visually connecting public departments.

The exterior renovation includes a new entrance, new windows and new color.  A dark grey concrete stain unifies the exterior precast façade and provides a foil for the new buff colored concrete arch framing the new entrance.  A dramatic horizontal colonnade of glass and silver columns is counter-pointed by a vertical recess of glass, providing welcome variety to the perforated precast façade.  A new glass stairwell and cantilevered canopy marks the new entrance.
