This exciting new residential loft development on East Liberty is an infill project located within downtown Ann Arbor, mid-block in a mixed-use area containing a wide variety of shops, cafes, restaurants and offices. The project entirely fills its compact 0.2 acre site, producing a density of well over 100 units per acre which is very unique in this region. The building has been designed to maximize the use of the tiny lot, with nine loft units facing East Liberty Street on the north and 12 units facing a large public parking lot to the south, which has been master planned as additional housing. The project is inspired by the great urban lofts of America’s industrial past. Vast interior volumes, housed within brick, stone and industrial glazing, provide an urban lifestyle unlike typical multi-family housing alternatives.
The interiors have a true industrial loft aesthetic. All lofts are framed with exposed steel bar joists and metal deck or concrete plank ceilings, exposed mechanical systems, highly polished stained concrete floors and exposed load-bearing masonry interior walls. Sliding flush solid-core wood panels on industrial hardware provide flexible room division. Interiors feature exposed spiral metal ductwork, structural steel framing, and exposed galvanized metal deck. European modular kitchen cabinetry and granite counters are paired with commercial grade stainless steel appliances. Bathrooms feature contemporary above-counter vessel basins on granite counters.
