Having outgrown satellite facilities in three communities, Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) selected Neumann/Smith to design replacement buildings.  Two sites in the fast-growing suburban communities of Plymouth and Canton are similar in context and cultural character.  In contrast, the third site in Hamtramck is an older community with a cultural mix of people and buildings.  While each project had unique site and program requirements, HFHS wanted to establish a visual identity for the new medical centers.

Planned from the interior out to maximize patient care and staff efficiency, clinic “modules” became the work-point for the design.  Each set of exam rooms is grouped around a skylit-covered workstation. Ancillary spaces were planned around the clinic module.  All three facilities contain community and conference rooms, administrative offices, exam rooms, radiology, labs, a hearing/vision clinic and a pharmacy.  Each lobby features visitor-oriented amenities such as conference cubicles for ancillary services and data-ready workstations for phone calls and modem-equipped laptops.
