On July 19, 2007 the Detroit Science Center opened the largest, tallest exhibit ever to be added to its permanent exhibit collection -- an 80-foot-long replica of the Mackinac Bridge.

The Science Center commissioned Neumann/Smith to build the exhibit as part of the State of Michigan's 50th Anniversary of the building of the Mighty Mac, designed by Dr. David B. Steinman.  The exhibit is located in the center of the Science Center's main level and is the primary pedestrian walkway over the Level 2 Science Stage located one story below.

The 80 foot long "Mini Mac" contains over 20,000 mini rivets and 2,500 feet of cable.  The color scheme is authentic Mackinac Bridge green and off-white.  In comparison, the Mighty Mac is five miles long, contains 4,851,700 rivets, 1,016,600 bolts, and 42,000 miles of wire cable.
